Is AzaSite® well tolerated? Are there side effects?
AzaSite® is generally well tolerated; however, as with any prescription medicine, there can be side effects with AzaSite®.
In clinical trials, the most common side effect was eye irritation, which occurred in 1% to 2% of patients. Other side effects (occurring in <1% of patients) were burning, stinging, and eye irritation upon instillation; skin irritation or rash; corneal erosion; dry eye; altered taste; nasal congestion; eye discharge; inflammation of the cornea; and sinus infection.
Important information
- AzaSite® is to be used as an eyedrop only.
- Do not allow the AzaSite® applicator tip to touch the eye, fingers, or other surfaces.
- Stop using AzaSite® and contact your healthcare provider if any signs of an allergic reaction occur.
- Although it is common to feel better early in the course of therapy, it is important to use AzaSite® exactly as directed by your healthcare provider.
- Skipping doses or stopping too early may make the treatment less effective.
- Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs or symptoms of pinkeye.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before using AzaSite®.
